Well, it's confirmed. Theresa May is on manoeuvres again and will try to force the Withdrawal Agreement through Parliament in the week starting 3rd June. Anyone else think this is getting a bit embarrassing?

For those keeping count, this will be attempt number 4 at pushing this failed deal through Parliament. Each and every time it's been put to the Commons so far, it's been rejected - twice by record margins.

LDAT Special for Green Lib Dem Conference

You will probably have seen already that we have organised a session covering "Nuclear Weapons and the Environment" at the Green Liberal Democrat conference in Nottingham on Saturday 15th June. The speakers for this session are CND General Secretary, Kate Hudson and our own Baroness Sue Miller, so I hope this will tempt Liberal Democrats Against Trident (LDAT) members to come along.

Lib Dems call for EU-wide fracking ban

The Liberal Democrats have today [16 May 2019] committed to campaigning for an EU-wide ban on fracking because of its negative impacts on climate change, the energy mix and our environment.

Lib Dem Leader Vince Cable will be discussing the party's commitment to the environment with shoppers at a Zero waste shop 'Unwrapped' in Sheffield later today. He will say the Lib Dem manifesto is a "blueprint for what the UK could achieve if Brexit was stopped."

The party is calling for Europe to adopt a net zero greenhouse gas emissions target by 2050, higher EU standards of and greater investment in energy efficiency, an ambitious EU-wide action plan on deforestation and immediate action to tackle the use of plastics through a new binding international treaty.

Leader of the Liberal Democrats Vince Cable said:

"We are unequivocal in our commitment to an EU-wide ban on fracking.

"But we can only achieve what is needed to face up to the climate emergency by working together with our international partners as a leading member of the European Union.

"To proceed with Brexit would be to throw away the biggest tool we have in the battle against climate change.

"Every vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote to Stop Brexit and protect our planet for the future generations."

As Brexit drags on, it becomes clearer every day - it's a national embarrassment. More and more people are realising how important EU membership is for our country and our future.

Theresa May is trying to push through a deal that panders to her party's extreme fringe and Nigel Farage. Again and again, Jeremy Corbyn has helped her, letting down Labour supporters across the UK.

    Corbyn's dodgy comments.

Trying to stitch up a deal behind closed doors.

Shadow ministers bragging how they're bailing the Tories out on Brexit.

Jeremy Corbyn has teamed up with the Tories to drag us out the EU at any cost. Labour is a pro-Brexit party.

Let's compare and contrast that to the Liberal Democrats.

We launched a new poster in London today, calling out Jeremy Corbyn's dodgy Brexit voting record.

With a weak minority government, he could have stood up and put an end to this national embarrassment. But instead, he's voted with the Conservatives 29 times to push Brexit through.

Actions speak louder than words. Labour is a Brexit party.

Content warning: this blog post will discuss issues relating to eating disorders

It's mental health awareness week, and this year's theme is body image. Many people who suffer from ill mental health, such as having an eating disorder, still don't get the support they need. This needs to change.

We need early intervention, better training for doctors, and standardised waiting times for adults, like we have for children.

There was a new round of EU election opinion polling in this weekend - and the Lib Dems are performing amazingly!

The data released has us between 12 and 15% - the highest we've been in years, with big increases in all 3. If we carry on this momentum, we could well record our best European election showing - ever! We're already well above the Conservatives - and getting close to challenging Labour for second place.

We are a proud European party, and we want to keep it that way!

As a part of us wanting to remain in the EU, we are excited to announce our new joint project with the German liberal party Free Democratic Party.

It will allow you make direct contact with a new German friend to exchange ideas to help bridge the divide that has been caused by nationalism and misconceptions.
