Peter Aldous MP By https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/en:Chris_McAndrew (Creative Commons 3.0 Unported)Local farming MP Peter Aldous, who went from Remain to "an exciting future" under Theresa May's Leave Deal and now supports his failing Premier's No Deal, Leave at any cost prospectus, claims to represent the interests of farming and fishing...

Whilst raising the issues of the sustainability of the seas and concerns of small scale fishermen in the House, he now pursues a course of No Deal which will neither protect UK waters from 'foreign' fishing, sustain fish stocks or from the devastating impact of EU import tariffs on UK farm exports as his Government plans to open the door to foreign food imports including chemically washed chicken from the US. So much for, "this new partnership should ensure that Britain retains sovereignty over a number of areas; and in particular for Waveney the areas of fishing and farming, which for local businesses, farmers and fishermen is a key concern which has been expressed to me".

In June 2016 prior to the ReferendumWaveney MP announces at top of that a south Lowestoft maritime manufacturer will pull investment if UK leaves EU.

On a lighter note in March 2019, Mr Aldous ignored and interrupted the day's hot topic in Parliament, and moved on to fears over shop closures on Lowestoft High Street, including that of Body Shop, Argos and Beales. Mr Aldous' question garnered a bemused response online after the Brexit-heavy debates which had come before it. Duncan Robinson, political correspondent for The Economist, said: "Commons just switched from Brexit to the state of high streets in Lowestoft is a hell of a gear change. Parliament swings wildly between high politics and a parish council."

As the following voting record shows Peter Aldous has not exactly proven his credentials when it comes to equality and human right including gay rights and as a landowner he supported selling off the nations forests and voted against measures to prevent climate change.
